‘My List of Demands’ by Steve Powers
The world’s nicest public enemy, Steve Powers, appropriately dubbed his debut solo Deitch exhibition ‘My List of Demands’. Perhaps best known for his graffiti work, ESPO translated the same sensibilities into some slightly different territory: ie, the exploration of basic human emotions, relationships, and binary experiences. Using simple illustration and the commonplace signage that surrounds us as his medium, Powers created a supersaturated world of ‘Emotional Response Icons’. The end result was as digestible and accessible as it was poignant and sticky.
